We are located at 275 Beasley Drive in Versailles, Kentucky inside the Falling Springs Arts & Recreation Center.

WCTAA Mission

The Woodford County Theatrical Arts Association is dedicated to providing the best quality community theater we can offer.  We fulfill our mission by producing at least four plays per year, by offering theatre classes and workshops to all ages and providing free demonstrations, lectures and consultation to area schools, churches, businesses and individuals.  As a community theatre, none of our actors are paid and whenever possible we use volunteer labor to accomplish our goals.

Funding

As a business, we run "in the black," with our box office receipts, program ads, and sponsorships helping to pay for each production.  A portion of our funding comes from the Woodford County Fiscal Court and the City of Versailles.  Their support partially covers our staff salaries, general operating expenses (such as rent), utilities and insurance as well as "seed money" for plays.

Philosophy

We feel we are doing more than putting on plays.  We are providing a creative outlet in our community that develops the qualities that define good citizens-- discipline, commitment, a spirit of cooperation, and creative problem-solving skills.  We believe a healty arts organization provides long-lasting economic benefits to its community by attracting businesses and consumers.

Structure

Our organization is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors.  They are considered a "working board," providing leadership on the various committees set up to define WCTAA policy and produce the plays.  We currently have two full-time staff members, a Business Manager and an Executive/ Artistic Director.  Together, they manage the business and provide professional direction and guidance.  We also have one part-time administrative assistant.  Most of our work is accomplished through volunteer labor.

Goals

We seek to continually expand our offerings to the community, including a full season of professional-quality plays, ongoing educational opportunities for both children and adults, and to encourage the growth of all the arts in Woodford County.

Service Area

Though our business is located in Woodford County and we have a proven record of local support, we have consistently attracted regional talent and audiences since our inception in 1987.  Our class enrollment, casting of shows, and crew involvement indicate a strong regional base of participation, and ensure greater exposure and recognition for our sponsors.  WCTAA programs and services reached 10,000 people in 2004 alone.

Budget

Many people do not realize how expensive producing theater can be.  Royalties alone can cost nearly $5000... and that's just for permission to mount the show!  Add to that costumes, lighting and sound equipment, designers, technicians, set materials, publicity, programs and printing, and a theatrical production can become quite expensive.  Typically, a full scale, large cast musical costs anywhere from $10,000 to $18,000 to produce... and that's on a community level, where volunteer time and talent is used whenever possible.  A smaller cast, one set show typically runs between $5000 and $8000.
